    Last night in Huntington Beach...

My wife and I went into downtown Huntington Beach last night to see The American Wake at Gallagher's. We had dinner at the HB Beer Co., and took a walk up and down the crowded Main St., killing some time before the band got started.

I didn't notice much, but my wife said I was causing quite a stir with my brown Workman Utilikilt. I didn't get the snide comments, probably due to the pretty girl on my arm, and being 6'2" with an athletic build. I did get a lot of "cool kilt, dude", as well as a few shocked expressions and whispers as we walked past, ...the usual.

One group did stand out. About ten guys, all in their late teens, were clustered together talking when we walked by. A couple of them noticed me, and I braced myself for the inevitable rudeness that can generate out of kids trying to be "cool" in front of their friends. Instead, I was suprised to hear "Wow, check that out", "cool", "What's he wearing", "Hey, where'd you get that?", etc. Since they had addressed me directly, I stopped to talk to them. They really thought my kilt was cool, and wanted to know more about it. I let them check it out, and handed out a bunch of UK business cards before continuing on.

I wonder if I am going to see more UKs down there in the future.

So hey Iolaus - are you a teacher? I ask because of the "kilted in class" photo in your gallery. Also because I'm a teacher. I teach English and ESL to 7th grade rugrats in Los Angeles.

    Curiously yours,

    Steve

No, I'm a returned student at OCC.

Teacher huh? I feel for you. My wife is a 7th & 8th grade English and Math teacher in Westminster.
