I think it would all depend on which way you were going, feet or head first.

I also ride the subway all the time. Plenty of horizontal holes in the ground. Tunnels. I tend to go through them with my feet on the ground, because I can stand up in them, because they're horizontal. Pits and fissures are vertical.

Ohhh... ok.... I was thinking horizontal in reference to the Z axis. (duhh)
