New to Kilts - an interesting night..
First let me say that I am not a Scot. Nope, not even in the furthest recesses of my family. Now, my honey, there's a Scot. Through and through on both sides of her family - all the way back to some great, great, great X10 grandfather who was the main rival to Robert the Bruce.... and ended up face down in a lake for it.
Nope. I'm a Pole who has been wandering through life blissfully content in my Levi's.
However, I play darts. I play darts in Pittsburgh. I play darts in Pittsburgh with a mutual friend of this board - Jeff Mornaweck - owner and operator of Pittsburgh Kilts.
Jeff always chucks his spears wearing one of his kilts. Usually a camoflauge, sometimes a solid, but always of his own making. Eh, I digress a bit.
Jeff is always looking to educate us players on the comfort and utility of kilts (or just looking for business) and since I'm always curious of new things (or extremely gullible to entreaties of a beautiful Scottish girl), I decided to have Jeff make me my first kilt.
Grey. Denim-like material. Heavy, but smooth and comfortable. Very nice for someone who doesn't know a thing about what to look for in a kilt. But, the lovely Scot liked it quite a bit when she saw it the first time, even if it didn't match her family tartan. So I garnerd up the enthusiasm to wear my new kilt out to a league dart match in the local American Legion Post.
Jeff had referred me to this board, and I had read all about the comfort and utility of a kilt, but I was very pleasently surprised at how true it is. What was also surprising was the various respones that I got when I walked into the legion to throw.
I was amazed at how uncomfortable some of the guys were. All younger. I was amazed at how well recieved the kilt was with the women throwers (again, all younger, but no problem there), and how well liked it was by the older military vets. Not sure why, but the vets have seen more of the world.
So, I spent the night throwing my darts, having the kilt yanked up by the younger women ;), and winning games to shouts of "you lost to skirt-boy!" 8) All in all, the kilt proved to be a center of attention and liven the night while being comfortable and cool while playing.
I can see why Jeff wears his all the time. I loved it. Can't wait till next match.
Thanks for the outlet.

Welcome!
Mike - welcome to the board! I'm a recent joiner-on here and have found it to be as friendly a place as one can find on the web.
Please share with us your kilted tales as they unfold - that's what makes it fun!

WELCOME to the fun side of life! Kilts are definetly comfort to the soul as you have discovered. In spite of what Jeff has said we are not the crazies that he probably made us out to be. We are fiesty, we are very knowledgeable, we are tons of fun, and sometimes we even have some sane thoughts (oh those are rare times).
So ZelieMike you have come to the right spot.

ZelieMike,
A hearty welcome to you. Glad to have you on the forum.
You got me to thinking.
I did not know anyone still played lawn darts.
I really enjoyed playing that as a kid.

Welcome, Mike.
By the way, everyone has some Scots blood, methinks.
But it's not a prerequisite for wearing and enjoying the kilt.
