simple newbie questions about washing and wearing

With only one kilt how often could I get away with wearing it? Every other day? Once a week? The kilt would be a casual, daily wear kilt, not a dress kilt, and I don't work in an office or anything.

And how often should it be cleaned? I know that you can simply spot wash it (I couln't find this process explained anywhere) after each use, but as a rule of thumb how often should a kilt be cleaned?

    First off welcome to Xmarks

I think you could get away with wearing your kilt a little more than once a week. Depends on what you do it it. If you choose a Bear kilt these you can wash in a machine. Having said that..I haven't washed mine yet and it still looks good. I hang my kilts to air out before putting them away. This helps.
Another thing If you go "regimental" (without underwear) you may have to think about cleaning your kilt a little more than usual. Others my say different

I have begun to use a steam Gun I've too little expeience with them at present but others here use them.

Hector Russel reccomend you shouldn't dry clean a wool kilt more than Once a year

For a casual like a utilikilt I'm not sure ...Maybe just wash it when you think it needs it.

But wear your kilt as often as you like it's your's you'll know when it's time to clean it.
Ps.I have yet to clean my first 8 yard wool kilt ....It's three years old and get a lot of use.
Good luck I'm sure others will chip in with some advice soon too.
    All the Best.....David.

I've had a poly-viscose kilt from USA Kilts for about 5 months now and I've tossed it in the washing machine twice during that time. Same goes for the Black Watch Stillwater kilt that I have. I must say that the poly-viscose comes out of the wash demanding less attention than the acrylic Stillwater, but they both survive it just fine.

I wear a kilt two-three days a week and rotate that around my various kilts, so each one gets worn roughly once a week. I'll be moving my new Bear Kilt into the rotation now, so the Bear Kilt and the USA Kilt, both Poly Viscose will be my "summer" kilts and the two Stillwaters will be my "winter" kilts. So, during the season, once a week wearing.

I'd say that I'm happy with washing them twice in six months, maybe three-four times a year, assuming I don't dump coffee on one of them or something.
