    First time at school...

...in a "traditional" kilt - my Nightstalker.

The socks and undershirt were approximately the same shade of gray, a darker gray than the picture shows, so I think I got the "balance top to bottom" thing right.

...and tonight I let the strap out a notch, so it hangs just a bit lower now.

Good pic! Captures the Nightstalker tartan well. Good choice in kilt pin :-) Is that a Freelander sporran or did you brave the leatherwork yourself? The sporran belt looks interesting too.

Great look Iolaus! I love the belt, where did you get it, and do they have a similar one in brown?

Looks great. I love my nightstalker. And where did you get the sporran strap? I like it. Much nicer than the chain I have.

Looks good. I was just about to say something about the socks. They look white on my screen.

I think the night stalker will be the type of kilt I get after I make my first kilt and get a black watch tartan.

Thanks for all the compliments, I got them all day too - from girls and guys!

Yes, it's a Freelander, on its virgin outing.

The belt is a standard Sam Brown Duty Belt. I got it for around $30 at the local uniform supply shop, but you can get them on line. They are available in brown, but you'll have to look for them, black is the most common color.

I made the sporran strap. It's kind of hard to describe. It's got a double twist closest to the sporran, but then has a mystery braid from there to up past the hips. I made the size adjustable by joining it in back with an overlap and some sort of screw-in rivets, instead of using a buckle. ...and tonight I added a couple of small diamond shaped conchos in front, between the two differently braided portions. I'll have to post a picture.

I'm thinking about changing out the horn pieces on the Freelander to some kind of antiqued silver medalion and beads, but I'll have to find the perfect pieces to do it with; the pieces it came with are nicely understated, I don't want to change that.
