Disappointed
I made a huge mistake over Chistmas time in buying a new cilt. My wife and I thought that the new 'boulder' cilt through SportKilt was a good looking cilt for the price. So I ordered it in woodland camo and bought two pairs of white cilt socks as well. I didn't get a comformation e-mail, so I wrote them to see if everything was good. They responded that everything with my order was good and it would be shipped on the 27th. So they ship the cilt on the 27th, it arrives the next day but Fed-Ex wouldn't leave it at the door, so I had to wait till the next day. I change all my plans to wail around the house for my cilt. Fed-Ex shows up, turns out I have to pay duty on the cilt to get it, What?!, I never had to pay for duty with my UK or my Stillwater. Ok, it's just Fed-Ex, fine I won't use them again. Then I open my cilt, I'm so excited, I got it and the socks I ordered. I put on the socks, awesome, I put on the cilt, not so awesome. First off it velcro, that's different to get used to. The material feels weird, like canvas, so I thought that if I wash it, it will soften and hang better. I wore my new cilt all day and it didn't feel right, it hung funny?! I thought that it's because I'm not a small flat bellied guy. So I thought I'll wash it, that'll fix it. When my wife got home I showed her the new cilt that was drying on the rack. She looked at it funny and said it didn't look right. I tryed it on and showed her how it hung funny. Puzzeled she had a closser look and noticed the problem. One, the velcro was put on crooked, so that's why it dossn't line up when I put it on. Second, the aprons, now this will get you. My wife shows me that they didn't use one piece of matterial like 'all' cilt makers do, they ran out and added a piece of material for the under apron, which was too small, it won't wrap around my legs like my other cilts do. The other thing is the top apron which is huge, it's one piece of matterial that's folded three times, so my apron is four layers thick. Plus it looks like it's missing a pleat, because it's not even. What a waste of money, it cost to much to bring the cilt up from the states, more with the duty. The only saving grace is my wife says that the cilt is fixable, and it has no lables on it to say who made it, also the socks are quite nice. Needless to say I'll never be buying a cilt through SportKilt again. Besides that I have the best wife who will help me. Cheers.

I have heard way too many horror stories about Sportkilt to ever order anything from them. For a few more bucks you can get a good kilt from Stillwater, or a tailor made kilt in light weight material from either Bear or Rocky and Kelly @ USA Kilts. Way better options.
Sorry to hear the kilt was a disappointment.

This clause should be posted at the top of the newbie section or required reading for all who are new to kilt wearing.
With about 10 months of kilt wearing under my belt, hind sight tells me to start with a Stillwater economy to experiment with. You can go up from there if you decide to continue.

I agree fully cavscout, I started with a black economy from Stillwater, I bought it on e-bay because I wasn't sure about the whole thing, I thought it would be fun to wear to HoseHead's wedding and I would take it from there. I loved wearing it and quickly bought a USA Kilt from Rocky, that I ended up wearing to the wedding, but if not for the economy stillwater, I don't know that I would have bought any more. Now I am planning to get some of the Xmarks tartan for my first wool kilt.
I too have heard bad things about sport kilt, but also heard great things about it from Riverkilt, so I guess with mixed reviews I will probably shy away from them.
I will probably get more Stillwaters, lots more USA Kilts. I really want some from Matt as well. Then onto contemporary and the list for those is very long. I don't see time to fit in a Sport Kilt that may be great (as Riverkilts was) or may need 'fixing' (Big Dave's is) I think if you look at the options you can find something that will be shipped quickly and a good product.
have a happy new year all

I know a guy who bought SportKilts for himself and his sons. I've seen them and I will never buy one.

SportKilt is a sportkilt. REALLY casual to use at the gym for example like I will when I get my first trad (wherever it is right now...) And mine is hanging nicely though

I thought it was common knowledge that kilts from sportkilt were bad news. I am amazed at the number of people that buy from them... sometimes more than once. I suppose they are ok for those that don't care or don't want to spend money on a proper kilt.

If you want a wide selection of tartans, you will pay about $20 to $30 dollars more for it. If you can handle the selection from Stillwater you might as well save the money and get what is most likely a better kilt.
Anyone out there who can compare the SWK Economy to a SportKilt?
