    Winning Portrait

I thought y'all might like to see the portrait that won Best of Show and People's Choice in the 2005 Portrait Competition of the Portrait Society of America.

Beautiful painting, but, oh, the jacket...

oh! I see what you mean about the jacket.

Unfortunately I too made that error in my early days of kilt wearing.

I will never make that mistake again. It just doesn't look right.

    Great portrait though.

Great portrait. If only I could get my beard to look that good.

Yeah... the jackets not good. The tartan tie is another little faux pas.

The jacket and tie make it a good what not to wear referance.

Yes, I realize that the rule of thumb is no tartan above the waist save for the flyplaid, but I don't find it that offensive to see a small amount of a matching or complementary tartan like in that portrait: it's certainly better than his "peekaboo" sporran look, which distracts from an otherwise unoffensive painting. I could see myself wearing a v-neck sweater with a white shirt and kilt matching tie, but I doubt I could put up with it w/out the sweater.

Well, it does frame the sporran nicely, if that's the look you're going for.

Let's just be thankful he wasn't wearing an animal head sporran! It would look like he had a woodland creature living in his crotch or hiding in his coat!

Glassman don't do that! I was just taking a sip of wine, now I am out the sip and have to clean my screen besides!

Still, glad to see a portrait of a kilted man taking an award, regardless of any fashion foe-paws (or fax-packs for you undeucated folk!).
