    MotG's Duncan's Kilt's Weight?

It sure doesn't move like the other, more occasionally worn kilts in the show.

    Looks much heavier.

And sorry if this has been discussed already. The "search" feature isn't working for me tonight.

Resisted for quite some time but recently started watching the series on DVD.

I actually thought that Duncan's kilt looked more like a lighterweight casual kilt. I guess it depends on what series you are watching. Apparently one kilt was used for series 1 and 2, a new one was made for series 3, and than another for series 4 (not sure after that). So whle it may look more like a casual kilt (less pleats and more bounce) in the later series, maybe it was heavier in the early shows. I always thought that Hector, Archie, Kilwhille, and Golly (in 1 and 2) had heavier looking kilts.

It's interesting to note that Golly went for the MacDonald kilt (At least I think it is) ]in series 1-3

But wears a different tartan (not sure what but it almost looks like Weathered MacKenzie) in the later seasons . That kilt too looks like it is more of a casual kilt than the previous seasons.

When I met Hamish Clark (Duncan) a year ago at the opening of Howie's 'TFCK' showroom in Edinburgh, the matter of his kilts in the show came up in our conversation......... naturally! He didn't say anything about there having been different kilts in different series, but he did tell me that he was given a really expensive, top of the range kilt to wear in his less energetic/'wading in the loch' scenes. In the scenes where he was likely to damage that kilt, he had to change into 'mock-up' kilts, sewn in the wardrobe department at the BBC - and there were a number of those!

All the kilts he wore had small, lead weights sewn into the selvedges to help keep the pleats from flying too high as he dashed about!!

I must admit that I always assumed Duncan's kilts to be heavier than those worn much less frequently by other charcters in the programme. In the main theirs were kilts for special occasions (16oz?) whereas Duncan's were working garments (more likely good, solid 18oz), but maybe that was because of the weights!!

They talk about Duncan's kilt here, as well as a few other waredrobe items from the show.

    Duncan's kilt
Hamish wore the same kilt for three series, although obviously it was washed regularly! For series 4 we had to get a new one made as the kilt had had a lot of wear of tear, and was falling to pieces.

The kiltmaker in Perth had to replicate the original design exactly, as it's such a signature piece of clothing for Duncan. This little item has had so much wear and tear that we had to get a new one made for Series Five!
