Maybe a daft question from a newbie, but...
I have come across several references to "tank" on the forum. My appologies for not knowing the correct meaning or origin - but could my good fellow X Marks enlighten me?

Maybe a daft question from a Newbie, but?
This word was also new to me when I joined this forum. I've assumed Tank means a full weight Scottish kilt but maybe some of the longer serving forumites can confirm this. Another of the in phrases used by established members of the forum which doesn't make much sense to some of us on the east shore of the Atlantic is Jones. Is this the name of a kiltmaker and does Jonesing have something to do with wanting to wearing a kilt of that make?

To my understanding, a tank is a full weight, traditionally made kilt in the Scottish style, but can actually be made anywhere.
To Jones is to have an irrational craving for something. I believe it actually came from the drug culture.

Tank or traditional eight yard kilt
Tank is a disputed word in the forum, it is most often used to describe a traditional wool kilt. Some people in the form prefer not to use the word, others do just to save typing (I am guilty of that).
cessna152towser is correct on the jonesing thing, it is the waiting for a kilt that has been ordered or will be soon.

Although no expert, I'm assuming the term "tank" comes from "built like a tank".

A tank is a heavy wool kilt. I believe it was Jimmy Carbomb who coined that term here.

In other words a "tank" is a kilt. Anything else is a variation, i.e. casual kilt, utility kilt, Pittsburg kilt, Bear kilt, etc., etc.
