    Enough is enough!

Today I donned the kilt after far to long a time in trousers. A couple weeks, actually. I really don't want to slip, fall, and answer the Question for anyone in view, and I walk everywhere. But I've had enough of it, darn it! I really dislike pants. I had a thought last night that I'd donate all my pants (except one pair to wear in the forge) to charity, then I'd have to only wear kilts.

I've also decided that I'm getting a SWK. If I keep waiting like I have been I'll never get one. It may still be a while till I get one, I'm still trying to lose enough weight that I can get away with a 38", but after that, I'm getting one. Black Stewart, I think, though I'm still torn about a standard or heavyweight.

    Kudos to you Nick,
Wish i had the option of doing the same as i sit here at my desk with the seam of my pants cutting into areas that shall not be named. But the joys of working in the uptight corporate world of NYC precludes that> I am gonna go to a St Paddy's day party kilted tho - was dared to do it by a co -worker & might get a chair worth several hundred dollars out of the deal :-) (I sell high end office furniture & was dared by a vendor - if i follow thru he has to give me one of his chairs!)

Here's to an end to TROUSERED TYRANY!!!

    Go for it Nick.

Though I hate to, I do wear boxers under my kilt at work - just in case....tartan print boxers though. Its worth it!

And Onion...YOU SELL COMFORT AT WORK....one would think that kilts would be a natural extension of that concept. Your most comfortable office chair is EVEN MORE comfortable when kilted. I'm an old corporate guy (with time in NYC too) so understand...but also know that a great "gimmick" can boost sales.

"So why are you wearing a kilt?"

"Well Mr. Prospect, you know our model X432 Superlounger executive chair is as comfortable as science can design a chair. A kilt further increases that comfort...."

TFCK has some great looking kilt suits....

    Nick,

Pants are very OVER rated. You are doing the right thing!

This is the second time since I started wearing kilts that I found myself wearing trousers more often. It's never a good feeling

Onion, I work in a fairly relaxed environment and have never gotten any serious grief for wearing kilts, though my boss likes to tease me. Why don't you try asking your boss about the possibility of wearing a kilt? Have a picture of a good kilt suit on hand to show him how professional it looks. Maybe one with a vest, to get that "3-piece" feel.

Ron, I like the way you think - its all about differentiating yourself from the crowd & wearing a kilt woudl definately do that.... Gonna see the responce at teh above mentioned party and take it from there... BTW just got promised a free computer monitor arm if i do it so the game is on!!!!
gonna head off to the fabric store in a few to grab some black watch tartan to keep me busy this weekend.... will post pics after for sure!!!

Let's just say the boss here isnt the most 'progressive' or 'open-minded' of individuals. I get dirty looks when ever i wear anything other thana bright white dress shirt! I will do it at the party as that's after hours and in the spirit of the event but he woud toss my kilted tush out the door if i were to try it during regular business day... then again if my sales were to suddenly jump after wearing one at the party......

Whenever I drive through the university area I keep an eye out for a guy in a kilt. Now I know why I haven't seen him.

I know exactly how you feel. Wearing it is a liberating experience. What kind of forging do you do? I have thought about getting into bladesmithing, but it seems like something you can't really teach yourself.

You know, I've taken an approach that was suggested by a post that I read here early on. One of the Kilted Brethren wrote that he worked at a day care center or a pre-school or something like that and that he fer-sure wore shorts under his kilt as children were present. It is very unlikely in my life and times that I'm going to be anywhere where children are NOT present; thus I take it upon myself to forgo the pleasure of going regimental. Sorry if I'm not "holding up the side" but I'd rather hear some kid say "I saw your shorts" than "I saw your winky" and thus get into a situation that might lead to my having to register with my local constabulary whenever I re-locate. This isn't the Highlands and this isn't the 18th century...we live in a different world.

But fortunately, they make shorts in colors other than white nowadays. I spotted a pair of boxers the other day that were in a small Hunting Stewart pattern...perfect for my USAK casual...except they were Nautica and thus $12 a pair....$12 for a pack of three I could understand...so I'll surf the sale on those puppies.

So indulge yourself in some black boxer-briefs and fear no icy patch...don't get overly concerned about whether or not you're "keeping it real"...don't let something like that keep you from wearing the kilt whenver you want.

    Best

I tend to forgo the joys of being fully liberated down there (regimental) because I spend so much time seated or in a wheelchair. Wheelchairs don't let you really get a good leg spread so the sporran can't fall well between your legs and hold a kilt down. That means that if a good breeze comes at me or if whoever is pushing me decides to go to the races, I have found my kilt lifting up. So for the comfort of others I wind up wearing a pair of micro-fiber boxers under my kilts.
