After reading about how great the kilts are from USA kilt, I have decided to get a semi trad. For kilt #6, I wanted one that represents my family. My family surname is Morris, and we are from Wales. Which means the "Morris of Wales" tartan would fulfill the obligation.

But, I cannot get that tartan in semi trad from USA kilts.

So, I find that Morris is associated with Clan Buchanan, which does come in the semi trad. I talked with Newsome about it, and he confirmed the association, but wasn't sure off hand what the connection was. He also suggested Morrison, but alas, not available in semi trad.

I did read a few of Newsome's articles on his blog website, and he points out that various "authorities" claim different tartans as being the "official tartan" of families. Every time I put the Morris name in a tartan finder, I would get a new list.

He also stated that what is more traditional is wearing a tartan that I like.
So, I looked at what is available in semi trad from USA kilt.

And, I have settled on Ramsay.

As long as no one tells me there is a bitter, bloody hatred between Morris and Ramsay, I am all set.

    Norbydog,

How far back have you traced your Morris line? Is it indeed "Morris" or "Morrison"? It may seem like splitting hairs to most, but generally if you're lines lead back to Morrison you're likely of Scottish or possibly Irish descent, whereas if it's "Morris" (without the "son") you're more than likely Welsh or yet again even Irish ("FitzMaurice" or "FitzMorris", et al).

Regardless, it's best that you decide what you wish to wear...that's all that truly matters. I don't mean to throw a wrench into the works; ultimately it's your decision on what tartan to wear. Best of luck to ya...you'll look smashing in most any tartan kilt I'm sure.

It is Morris, and I have not traced it back that far personally, and I rely on some family lore. In regards to getting whatever kilt I like best...I decided that I would look absolutely gorgeous and irresistable to all womenkind in a Ramsey. Plus, it matches my sweaters better.
