Name that Tartan
I was browseing ebay and happened upon this auction for a tartan skirt.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Highland-Queen-W...QQcmdZViewItem
I am nay inerested in owning a tartan SKIRT but I would love a kilt in this tartan and the auction does not state what tartan it is. The auction states it was produced by Highland Queen in Canada and a number of auctions by this particular ebay seller state that Highland Queen is one of Canada's premier kilt makers. I, however, have nay been able to locate a website for Highland Queen. Soooo, any insights from my kilted brothers or sisters out there as to which tartan this is. I'm also curious as to weather it's pleated to the Sett or Stripe. I can nay tell from the pics. Could be neither.
Many thanks,
Bryan

Hi Bryan
It looks like a variation of the Ross tartan to answer your question about Highlan Queen they mainly did womens wear I use to see their skirts in Sears a lot mainly I see them on FRAt guys at dragon boat races and highland games. These are womens skirt and close on the left not the right this can be adjusted in some cases you can still notice.
I don't think they are around any more

It almost looks like the Cameron tartan, but not quite http://www.qohldrs.co.uk/html/camerons_history.htm

i can give you some background on this, as i wove it in a previous career., perhaps 20 years ago.
highland queen were a ladies fashion house, closed down 10+ years ago, who designed new 'tartans' each year.
sometimes they were based on authentic tartans, but often were just checked patterns that featured that years fashion colours, this is one of the latter.

Looks close to one of the MacDonald tartans, pretty close to the MacDonald clanranald pictured in the J.G. MacKay book. I couldn't find an identical match in any of my books though.

I thought that might be the case. Diappointing, but I appreciate the confirmation.
Cheers

Welcome, Gordon, and thanks very much for the information on the Highland Queen "fashion" tartans. I was looking through red and black tartan e-swatches and book plates 'til my eyes were spinning.

Welcome Gordon, how's the weaving business? I still have that great 6 metres of MacKenzie Morgan 14 oz that will make a beautiful kilt one of these days. Glad to see you found the forum.
