Martial Arts
From what I've read, a number of the gentlemen who post here are practitioners of one martial art or another. Now, I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of Krav Maga. I ask because I'm having a bit of a hard time finding a Krav school here in Kingston, and I've taken to asking around wherever I have half a hope pf getting an answer.
So, anyone at all?

Didn't Godzilla fight Krav Maga after defeating Mothra?

Have you checked the Krav Maga National training center?

Eh, boy. I'd better explain a bit... ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Krav Maga is the Israeli army's defense system. There are quite a few schools set up accross the US and Canada for civilians, and police forces (as well as some in the armed forces) get advanced training in it.
Now, the reason I'm interested is because the system's core policy is "get out of the situation as quickly and with as little harm done to yourself as possible, by any means." Which seems rational to me: in some cases the system tells you to walk away. In others, it tells you to talk someone down. In extreme cases, it tells you to lay a guy out with one hit.
Now, being a non-violent person, I like the fact that teaches you to get out of situations without violence. But if someone comes at me, I want to know how to deal with it quickly.
There. That should do. Not Mothra.
Southern Breeze:
Yep. No Kingston locations are listed. I was just wondering if anyone here knew of an unlisted location in Kingston.

There's a Krav Maga school in northern Scottsdale, Arizona, but that doesn't really help you.
Southern Breeze already posted the link to the Canadian locations map.

Yeah, worst case, I wait a few years and hit an Ottawa or Toronto school, depending on where I end up.

I know Yaish is, or was, training in it a few months ago. You might PM him about it. They might know someone local to you.

So basically the main tennet od Krav Maga is
"Carry a bigger stick than the next guy"
all funnyness aside..
that sounds really cool. I'll have to look into it.
you could also try Scottish Kung Fu - basically a lot of yelling and screaming and kicking them while they are down.

Quite right. It's one of the most effective (and frightening) systems I've ever seen.

Thanks, I'll do that.

Pretty much. The point is to win... no matter what.

Well, Krav is the same, but without yelling. When you get the guy on the ground, you're supposed to knock him in the head a few times to make sure he can't get up. And hits below the belt are encouraged. Like I said, effective.
