it's kind of a cotton canvas duck material with leather around the waist and a leather apron. he found some kilt making instructions on the web and made it himself. he did a pretty good job on it, but it does need some refinements. i'm sure his next one will be even better. it's more of a casual kilt as it sits at the belt line where you would normally wear your pants and it uses buttons to fasten. the buttons are very ornate gold metal buttons. i'll see if i can find a better pic. here are a couple that he made for his boys....

Great pics. Wish I was there to meet ya in person. I work at the 'Timeless Links' chainmaille booth. (the one with the maille lingerie' ) But was attending another function on the other side of the state last weekend. (The show formally known as Paul Bunyon on the campus of Hocking College)
Have seen lots of kilts at the ORF this year. Quite a few UK's, which used to be the most prevalent, but I think the Tartan numbers have got them beat so far this year.
Looks like ya had a great time!

I didn't know they featured Highland game style heavy events at these Ren. Fairs.
Hey, I've heard other folks call it the "sheep" toos as well. A comon error I thinks.
