    Blair Drummond and other folks....

Many of those wonderful and familiar pipe tunes played by competing bands seem to be named after people... Dora MacLeod, Hugh Kennedy, Donald Cameraon, Blair Drummond, .. etc. Although the tunes are well known, the names behind them seem to be rather obscure.

I couldn't find any information on these people.... who they were or why they are immortalized in music - a search on the net produces a lot of CD listings but that's about it. I'm curious to know if I'm the only one that ever wondered about this.

    Thumbs up

I wouldn't say that the stories behind the names are that obscure. There's usually some sort of accreditation in whichever book they were originally published. Many of them are named for family, friends, patrons or people the composer admires. Much of this isn't placed on the net because the source is often still copyrighted material, but a few enquiries can be made on various net forums on the net to get the story behind a tune. Another option is a quick email to the College of Piping asking for information.
