    Kilted at Spamalot in Cincinnati

I saw a touring production of Spamalot this weekend in Cincinnati. I wore my McLeod of Harris hunting 5-yarder, a yellow dress shirt, hose, etc., but unlike SOME, well, ONE of us here, I did NOT get brought to the stage to meet Tim Curry, or even anyone remotely resembling Tim Curry, as Tim Curry was not in the show, and besides I was in the nosebleed section.

At intermission and before the show, I did run into both past and present coworkers, and not one of them remarked or even appeared to glance in the direction of my kilt. Perhaps it being Spamalot, which pokes a few jabs in the direction of the Scots, they thought I was dressing in theme. Or else they have already determined that I am eccentric. Or maybe it is that they are just among the enlightened few - I don't know, but it was a very natural interaction, and very pleasant.

This afternoon I spoke with my real estate agent, with whom I am working to try to sell my country house. She tells me that she, too, saw Spamalot just last night, and that she thought of me.

Oh? Why is that, I asked.

Well, it seems there was someone there dressed in a kilt, "and the last time I saw you, you were in a kilt," she explained. "He looked very nice. Is that the latest thing?"

    Well, it must be.

So, was it one of us?

Wasn't me, much to my annoyance I am going to be unable to make it to see the show this run. It's enough to make a guy say, "Ni."

    Nor me.

I'm hoarding my $$ for my upcoming vacation (15th anniversary trip), otherwise I'd be there like spam on .... uh ... rice!

I wanted my son to wear his kilt when we went to see Spamalot - in Cleveland, not in Cinci - but he didn't get himself together in time.

    Did you like the show?

Rex, how was the play? Is the touring troupe worth a look? It is coming to Tampa in February and we are thinking about a repeat viewing, but it may be a let down after London.

    I enjoyed Spamalot a lot.

It was hard to catch some of the one-liners from my celestial perch, but I thought the production was good. They worked in a few Cincinnati inside jokes, as I suspect they do for all their host cities.

I couldn't say whether anyone who's seen the Broadway or London production should see it again. Part of the fun of seeing a show with a celebrity in it is seeing the celebrity being a celebrity, but on the other hand, you are just as likely to see some very excellent talent despite the performers' relative anonymity. You could consider it a different show.

A word of caution for those who haven't seen it, however: if you are French, Scottish, Jewish, Christian, black, gay, royalty, pauper, cluelessly white, or particularly politically correct and easily offended, it's best that you stay home. The rest of us are going to have a good laugh on our way to eternal damnation.

    Regards,
    Rex in Cincinnati

If I don't get into hell laughing all the way, then I'll get into heaven laughing like hell, cause the joke was on us all! I hope to get to see the production, Kilted in full formal rigging. However, sans Claymore.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
