    Kilted at a renfair.

It was not me, the little kilt is not old enough to be "in period."

Today was Celtic day at the Louisiana Renfair. There must have been two dozen kilted men there. I had fun pointing out the kilting feaux pas. All and all though it was nice to see so many kilts.

Yeah, but they're trying...so give them partial credit for at least trying to get into the spirit of things.

I wonder how many will decide to wear the kilt more often.

I think it rather funny (ha ha), and perhaps funny (odd) that someone dressed "in period" would automatically assume that someone else wearing a little kilt was trying to do the same.

I'd wear a little kilt to a renfair... of course I would and do wear a kilt to lots of other places as well. The little kilt is a dang sight more comfortable and flattering than a pair of green tights!!

So is the great kilt considered "in-period" for a ren-faire? How about all that fantasy leather armor one sees, like something on the bad guys from Conan the Barbarian. By Crom, ther's probably more non-period stuff worn than period.

Ren Fairs are not places to worry about what is or is not period. Fae folks, elves, belly dancers, gypsys and a general wide spread assortment of costumes can be found, in period, out of period, street clothes and fantasy.

Yes the Great kilt is often worn to Ren fairs as well as SCA events. SCA is where you will find everyone dressed in period. Its actually a requirement to attend one of their events. (Its rather sad that I have more SCA clothes than mundane)

Last Ren Faire I went to I wore my kilt. It's not period, I know, but it's comfy.

And it was alot more comfy, and closer to period, than the Imperial Stormtrooper I saw, I would imagine. Or the guys wearing the long monk-like garments with Starfleet insignia on them.

So I don't worry about my outfit too much.
