How to explain why you're not wearing a kilt
I've worn kilts exclusively for the past three years. I wore trousers one Hallowe'en as my "costume."
Today, for some reason, I felt like exercising my right to choose what to wear by wearing trousers to work. None of my co-workers have ever seen me wear anything but kilts, so all night, they kept asking me why I was wearing trousers. It seemed ironic, since I spend the rest of my life explaining why I'm wearing the kilt.
One thing my little foray into trouserdom taught me is how uncomfortable the darned things are. Tomorrow it's back to kilts.
Andrew.

I know what you mean, I was out working on my sgian dubh today and was wearing jeans in the shop because it was dusty and getting cold. I finished the sgian and ran to town to have some fun on a free friday night after posting my buile log. Even though I was trousered I managed to confirm a date with a georgous lady for the 12th night celebration in Bisbee AZ. I didn't realize how comfortable I was until I got home and realized that my jeans were gone before I got 10' into my house.

I get the same thing...Kelly LIKES me in pants b/c I rarely wear them (once every 2 months or so)... I have to explain what the "occasion" is when I wear pants.

Been over sixteen months without pants for me so far...had wondered what that would be like if I did wear pants again. Now I know...thanks for checking that out for me Andrew so I don't have to now!

Dia Dhuit!
You know, it's funny sometimes that we rail against trousers/pants. I've even seen references to them being Sassenach wear! Supposedly, they were invented by the Celts (according to the Romans) and the word trousers ultimately comes from the Gaelic Triubhas. So trousers are really as Celtic/Gaelic as a kilt!
I spend most of my time kilted and get that response whenever I'm seen wearing trousers or show up to an event wearing a suit.

I wear a kilt any time I'm not at work. My wife's cousin's children have not seen me in pants since the wedding in July. The other night when I arrived home from work, I was wearing my usually Dickie's work pants. They were in shock and confused as to why I was not in a kilt. haha.

I know I never want to wear pants again. In fact, I hate even wearing shorts or PJ bottoms in the evening, and would like to get one of those nice Irish Night Shirts.

Well I wear kilts or trousers in about equal amounts so those who see me regularly are never surprised to see me clad in the one style or the other. Last year I wore trousers to a law conference and one of the ladies there asked me why I wasn't wearing a kilt, and it was only then I realised that I had got into a pattern of always wearing kilts to these conferences such that conference regulars who never saw me any other time would have assumed I was full-time kilted.

Though he was incorrect, someone today supplied me with an explanation.
I wore trousers today to meet my parents for lunch. Afterward, I stopped by a little gift shop, Metronation, to find some birthday cards and token gifts. One of the shopkeepers took me by surprise when he said, "You know it's getting cold out when the regular kilt-wearers start wearing pants." He explained that another of his customers who wears kilts came in the night before in pants.
Now I don't visit this shop often. A few thoughts went through my mind:
- It's not that cold.
- Even if it was a little colder, that wouldn't stop me from wearing a kilt if I wanted to.
- How does he remember that I wear a kilt regularly?
- Oh dear. I'm known as the guy who wears the kilts.
- How about that? I'm not the only one.
- Who else is wearing a kilt regularly who would be visiting this shop?
Regards,
Rex.
