Kilted Lawyers
Had a visiting lawyer from Glasgow representing his client in our court today who was very interested my black kilt/argyle jacket combination with the court robe. It seems his brother-in-law is also a lawyer in the west of scotland and wears kilts to work every day. He himself usually wears a kilt at weekends but hadn't worn one to work so far, because there are very few lawyers wear kilts to work. I told him the only way they would become more commonplace is for those like himself who already own kilts to start wearing them on a daily basis. Hopefully another convert to daily kilting.

Lets hope he follows his brother-in-law's and your lead and wears his kilt to work, at least he already wears the kilt on the weekend it should therefore be easier for him to go to everyday kilting if he so choses.

The more people see daily kilting the less the special occasion or weekend ideas about wearing them will be.
And that's all to the good!

You know I get that more and more,"Why are you wearing the kilt do you have something special to go to.....". I'm sure we've all heard it. I would be happy to see others wearing kilts on a more daily basis.

I hear stuff like this all the time but I would rather hear that than
"So whats under it?" God that gets old fast, today I had to get right in my superintendents face and ask him if he really wanted to see, cause I'd show him!!!
He said he really didnt want to see, so I told him not to freakin ask then.
I am just tired of the same old stupid childish responce from insecure little men.
Ok I'm getting off the soap box, sorry,
(pay no attention to the man behind the curtain)

I am glad to hear that some Scottish lawyers are wearing kilts. As someone who goes to court in the US on a pretty regular basis, I'd be hard pressed to convince my client that it was ok for me to show up in a kilt to court. I still hear stories of lawyers sent out of courtrooms for wearing what the judge sees as improper attire. The stories have gotten fewer over the years but every now and then I still hear one.
Cheers
Jim
By the way could you do something to make it easier for me to requalify as a lawyer in Scotland?

Millar is right about some courts in the US. But then, I've been in court (I go occassionally as a child advocate) when one lawyer was in wrinkled jeans and polo shirt! Guy looked like he was going to ask for spare change any minute. I'd have thrown him out myself!
I assure you that a kilt would be a big improvement for some folks.
