    The OTHER addiction...

So, everyone knows that "I'm Brad, and I'm addicted to Kilts." No secret there. But, what most (if any) of you don't know, is I'm also addicted to over-priced electronics. I'm sick sick sick. So, here's what I go today, after I figured out how to get around my carrier's fees and get all the rebates/savings I could out of them. If you work on them hard enough, you can get the cost way down. I got them from $450 --> $375 (better but still outrageous) --> $150 (that's what I'm talking 'bout.) I'm a happy camper. I'm so addicted to my email and SMS, this thing is going to get good use. I had a Treo last year... never again. Hopefully the Blackberry lives up to the hype...

Kilts are just one of my three expensive addictions.

I also have a huge collection of model trains, yet only a small layout in a spare bedroom to run them on, unless I take them into town to run on the club layout. (I'm secretary of the club). I bought lots more trains at the Glasgow Model Rail show last weekend, then a neighbour came to the door on Monday and gifted me a collection of non-working model trains. I spent much of the week fixing them up. Then the sister of my late friend who died of cancer at Christmas 'phoned and said he had wanted me to have his model trains because I was the only friend who would be interested in re-homing them, and could I come to Glasgow next week to collect them.

I spend so much time and money on collecting kilts and model trains rather than living life first hand, so today I took Ann for lunch at the airport then spent a lot of money going off flying to Newcastle to practice radar vectors and ILS approaches at the big airport, slotting in between the big Boeings. I learned last night that we have had an offer that's too good to refuse, so the old 'plane which the group flies (1965 Piper Cherokee 180) is being sold.

So I consoled myself by ordering another KILT. A Hunter Green Camo from Union Kilts. Which brings this post back on topic. Just as well I don't know what a Blackberry or an SMS is - are they also addictive?
I'm just glad I gave up the booze - now that was a BAD addiction.

A good choice, Alex, and well-timed too with 25% off. I am inclined to follow suit.

I don't think I have any addictions other than "kilts and accessories" - mind you, I could not afford to have any others! I have weaknesses for things in that I collect particular items (such as Royal Commemorative chinaware bearing Royal Coats of Arms but NOT photos or portraits). At my age I should be getting rid of things, not collecting - but what the heck!

I hope you'll still be able to keep flying.

A blackberry is that "thing-a-majig" in my first post. It's what is known as a "smart phone" these days. More than a phone, it offers QWERTY keyboard, internet browsing/access, push email, SMS texting (person to person text messaging) It's basically just a little all-in-one multimedia/communications device. And, I'm with you on the booze. Giving up that nonsense was one of the best things I've ever done...

I resemble that remark, my insurance just came due on the bike. I am in no hurry to take her out in this weather though, I must be gettin' soft

I would just love some new ink, but too many kilts to buy first.

I have been using a BlackBerry for 2 years and that thing is addictive. I can't live a day without it because of the calender/to do list/yahoo messenger/email/sms. Every user is addicted to it and people start to refer this device as the CrackBerry. My CrackBerry broke down last year and my carrier understands the addiction very well. I have a replacement within 24 hours.

Which one did you get? The Pearl or the other one?

I am waiting for the Pearl with the regular keyboard because I frequently use my yahoo messenger. It should be out soon.

    TattooBradley, it's not so bad

Hey, you could be waisting all of it on JUST kilts (pause) of course that wouldn't be a bad thing either. I have only had mine for about 1 month and have only had it on around the house. My official public appearance will be the 16th. My wife thinks I'm mad (an in the UK version of mad, not American angry sense of the word).

I already love wearing it around the house, can't imagine that I'll hate it out of the house. I know I'll get a few jeers, but I think it would be so bad. Hey, a little ribbin hasn't hurt me so far and a few more won't kill me either. I've already been thinking about a second kilt. I really like the Irish national taran. I've herd of a Scotland national tartan, but I havn't seen it anywhere, anyone else?

Okay TB, the real question is: "How'd you do it? What's your strategy?"

I'm due for an upgrade in a few days, and I certainly wouldn't mind knowing your strategy
