I also was wondering if there was only one way to wear it as well. Or is there different way? Does it just go over the shoulder and hang, I thought I've say some tuck it in the back? Sorry for my novice questions.

It is worn over the left shoulder, pinned with the brooch and it hangs over the shoulder. It is not unusual for the bottom point to be brought back up and pinned to the top of the kilt (or tucked under the belt) if you are wearing one while country dancing. I know some friends, who are very into Scottish country dancing who have a small garment hook sewn to the bottom point of the plaid. It can't be seen but it makes the plaid very easy to put up and down. Some will leave it hooked all the time and it looks fine.

    Exclamation

The fringe wont be a problem, but the one i used to have had a small belt attached to th end so that it could be tucked under the jacket, but i do not remember how that was done. I imagine that the end was gatherd and the small cloth belt was then sewn on. Hope some one has seen this methode and can help.

That's a type usually used for highland dance competitions. Unless you are competing in the Highland Fling the hook will accomplish the same thing.

I made one 56" X 56", with a 1" fringe all 'round. I marked 1" on the blade of my shears, and made 1" cuts every 6" or so, than took a sailmakers needle and tatted out the threads. Easy, although tedious, to do.

I often wear mine in the Irish way; folded as a brat:
