Wife's reaction
Wore my kilt for the first time on St Patty's Day. Not out in public, but at home.
My wife had the kids with her visiting her mom in the hospital (she's fine. she was only in for some tests.)
when she got home, i'm in the living room with my new SWK Irish National and the black sporran.
Came as a shock to her. (though i don't know why. i told her i wanted to get a kilt and she's always known i was nuts.)
She needs time to get used to it, i think. her words were: "You're not wearing that thing out with me."
Later she asked if i were planning on wearing it out, like to the store. to which i replied "Sure." that got a roll of those beautiful blue eyes.

I was lucky. My wife had been bugging me for twa years to get a kilt and then when I got it it was unfinished and needed heming and it sat around for three months before it got done and I got to wear it. Marilyn has bought me three of the Nine kilts I have. It sure is great to have a wife that knew I was out there when we got married
How old are the kids? If old enought what did they say?

My wife's reaction was somewhat the same, we still haven't been out together with it, but I think she open as long as the occasion seems appropriate to her.

My wife knew I wore kilts when we married (3 1/2 years ago), so she married a sometimes kilted fellow. In fact, the lion rampant on my ring was a source of early ice-breaking discussion.
Of course, now she says that she thinks it should only be worn on special occassions. Well, I don't wear it as much as I like to in an effort to get along, but I am going to wear it regularly and often. People who don't like me don't have to endure my presence. I would never force myself on folks who don't want me around.
In the ongoing struggle, I just quietly do what I want, and she adjusts.
Good luck.

I'm one of the lucky ones. My lovely wife thinks I look dashing in kilts and encourages me to wear them. She even joined X Marks the Scot!
Good Luck on winning her over

I can relate In my personal experience it does not get better except that they might tolerate it.

My wife wants me to stop buying kilts...
She pointed her cute little chubby finger at me and told me I had better get my **** in gear and start making the damn things or else.
Oooh she can be mean when she is riled.

Exactly! My wife was reading this thread over my shoulder and after the initial post, she said to me:
"Well, I think you look dashing in your kilt. That's why I married you that way!"

Same with my wife . . . first time I put a kilt on she said: "Wow, it really makes you look so masculine!"
