My First Off-the-Rack on the Way
Well I took the plunge today.
I have been wearing kilts for 40 years (I have never not had kilts in the closet in that time), but I have only had ones that wear made for me but in a few days that will change.
I decided I wanted to try an off-the-rack since I do enough in a kilt that I don't want to risk ruining a $500-800 kilt all the time. So after perusing the site and reading reviews I decided to try an SKW as my first casual. I ordered their standard kilt in the Royal Stewart Tartan. I grew up wearing that Tartan (I am a Stewart) but haven't in 15 years. Since it seems to be overused for Christmas and every cheap tartan piece of tourist crap on the royal mile (sorry venting) I didn't want to spend the money on a kilt I might not wear much. However for $80 I figured why not. If it looks decent I'll use it for games or just to knock around in.
I am also very interested to compare an off-the-rack with what I am used to. I know it will be different and maybe I will hate it, but we'll see.
So, I'll post the pics once it arrives.

I had an off the rack a while ago that I really did like but gave to my Dad after I lost a lot of weight.
It wasn't quite the same quality, but it was a decent fit and it held the pleats well.
I used it for a lot of events and for hiking and I was really happy with it.
Hopefully you'll be happy with yours too.

Chef,
I think you will enjoy it and find it a good value. I really enjoy my Royal Stewart SWK standard as seen here:

I actually prefer it for SCD than my Scottish Handsewn "Tank" (much cooler).
Cheers

You mean the Scotch Tape Tartan?

Have people considered that Royal Stewart is used so much because it is such a nice tartan, bright and bold mind you, but very nice just the same?
Cheers

I thought Wallace was the scotch tape tartan. At least it is according to my daughter, the Little Celtic Dancer.
Hmm-where is that roll of tape? Oh-there it is. Darn-it's Walgreens generic tape.
Guess I'll have to look the next time I'm at the store.

Sure it's the Wallace but depending on the type of tape it's in red, green, blue, yellow or the ever popular Purple Wallace.
I think that the Royal Stewart has been used on other packaging...notably a certain brand of shortbread cookies...I associate it more with kilts and tartan than packaging or Christmas.
