Benson Tartan
Greetings all, from a newbie.
Well, a newbie to the board; I've owned/worn a kilt for about 3 yrs now (a 5 yrd McLean Hunting), and I'm going to invest my tax return in a new kilt, probably a tank.
I'm curious about one thing tho...My heritage is Scandinavian, but those vikings got around, so I figured I must have some celtic cousins somewhere. I went looking and discovered there IS a Benson clan in Scotland, and I even found a family crest, but so far I've not been able to find a Benson Clan Tartan.
I confess I've only looked at tartanfinder.com...does anyone know of any other resources?

Probably not what your looking for, but the scotweb store listed at the top of this thread (in the upper left hand corner) has a really nice tartan finder.

And welcome aboard to the rabble!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

The Tartans Authority brings up the Roxburgh district tartan as a possibility. Interesting... it's a lovely tartan. ITI #140

from the highlands of North Atlanta.
Some of us Scots are of Viking descent, a DNA test will tell the tale. If you are of Viking descent your DNA will be in the I1a Haplogroup or another sub group of I.
There are many great looking district tartans out there. Some clan tartans do double duty as district tartans. The Campbell of Cawdor and the District of Argyle tartans are one and the same, there are several other examples.

The Orkneys and Shetlands were owned by Norway until about 1240, and the vikings also intermarried with the Scots of the Outer Hebrides. You could probably be safe with a Chattan tartan (MacIntosh, I think). Or find a district tartan from those areas.
Likely Mr. Newsome will have he last word on a Benson Tartan, but if there is a clan then likely there is a clan organization which may provide some information.
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)
Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.
7/5 of the world's population have a difficult time with fractions.

There is also a lovely Norwegian tartan designed by the Caledonian Society of Oslo that could be an option for you.
