Kilts & Food & Wine
Well,
now that I have my new pride of wales tartan, I will be wearing it while volunteering at the Food&Wine Classic in Aspen this year (2 weekends from now). My question is this: casual or formal? Should I go for the Dr. Martens/boot with scrunched down socks look? Or would it be better to have the flashes & such? My job is to pour wine samples before a tasting seminar & then get the heck out of the way while the seminar goes on. I am then responsible for resetting everything, emptying spit buckets (yum!), moving cases of empty wine glasses etc.
I know, probably the job would be better done with a freedom kilt, but i dont have one.
Anyway, in between seminars, there's this HUGE tent with food samples, wine samples and....whisky samples!!!! I get to wander around with all the rich folks who paid $1200/ticket during that time and i thought perhaps a wee bit more formal would do the trick.
Thoughts, suggestions, ideas, free freedom kilts ?

My two cents (or two pence) would be to go with the flashes. Sounds like it may be a semi-formal atmosphere at $1200 a pop. :-)
Besides which, the flashes certainly add to the overall look IMHO. Just be durned sure you don't spill any wine on the kilt!

I say go with the flashes. Even if it is too dressy, which I don't think it is, it's always better to be a little over dressed than under-dressed.

I'm in total agreement with R.L. The little extra class will be appreciated wether it's expected or not. Knock 'em dead!

I'd go with semi-formal or business casual. I think you'll want to look dressy, but not so much as to be the center of attention (which might be hard to avoid anyway).

Is this the best discussion group or what? Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions all! Now all I need to do is get some kilt hose to match my shirts when i am in Denver this weekend.

Check out Hamilton Dry Goods - I just got a pair of red and a pair of navy from them. Very happy with quality and service (3 days delivery).

IMHO, invest in light grey or oatmeal hose. They will match up with most any colour shirt or flashes.
