Hoorah for eBay!
I run a small Vauxhall car which has been as reliable as the day is long, economical on gas, easy to park, surprisingly roomy inside...and thoroughly boring. So I decided to get something secondhand, a bit bigger and more comfy for longer drives, as a second 'luxury' motor. It's a much older imported automatic Mitsubishi space wagon (actually a 'Chariot' - what an appealing name to someone who has a job getting to grips with modern technology) - electric everything, smooth as a baby's, and with non-standard jet black windows past the driver's position. As ugly as sin (especially the back end), yet lovable.
Anyway, I won it on eBay for £750, and got it through the MOT with some minor tweeking at the garage. But it needed a new passenger side wing mirror (apparently a partridge had flown out of a hedge and zonked it - well, that's his story). I enquired at the local Mitsubishi dealer's about fitting a new wing mirror - he did that usual noisy sucking in of air like the cost would be an absolute fortune. £200 plus VAT he said (gasp!).
So I looked on eBay, found a breaker's listing and bought an exact model wing mirror for a mere £15 plus £5 postage, and had it fitted at the garage up the road for £29! All in all under a quarter of what I might have paid. I think eBay is one of the best things the internet has given birth to.
I've also bought cheaper kilts there which are nothing special, but, for knocking about in, perfectly adequate if comfort on the cheap has as much attraction as adopting the kilt in the wider sense. So, all I can say is hoorah for eBay.

Yes you can get excellent deals on ebay. Especially from private sellers. Ebay stores do sound good until you add in postage and handling (them putting the item in a box).
