Glasgow airport incident...
So there was a possible terrorist attack on Glasgow airport today.
A bunch of guys drove a faming car into the front of terminal one and then started 'throwing petrol around to make the flames higher.'
As far as I know no one but the attackers was hurt.
For anyone interested you can read about it on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/6257194.stm
This is not to start a flame war about evil terrorists or anything, but I know a few guys on here plan to visit Scotland, so this is a heads up in case it affects your flights at all.

I don't want to seem patronizing towards anyone, but I've noticed something.
A lot of these "home grown" terrorists appear to have gotten their understanding of physics and explosions from Hollywood. Gas/petrol doesn't actually explode very easily. Only the vapor explodes and it has to disperse quite a bit first. I have a feeling that this fools thought that if the car was on fire and got splashed with more gas/petrol that it would burst into flames like in the movies. Thank God it doesn't actually work like that.
I guess in some ways we're lucky that the educational system isn't all that great. At least these guys never really learned what would really cause a big explosion.

Such an incident is new in Scotland, there has been nothing like it that I know of since Lockerbie which in itself is not fully comparable since the plane had taken off elsewhere.
Fortunately there has been no loss of life, but the disruptions and inconveniences it has created could have much longer term consequences.
I would urge those planning to visit Scotland not to be put off. After 9/11 many people changed their travel plans for the USA and after 7/7 the same happened here. Terrorists win when people respond to fear.

Absolutely, its business as usual in Edinburgh today.
I was interested to hear a couple of local holiday makers decided to mete out their own justice before the coppers got a hand on the guilty men.

This is a horrible incident. I have heard that this is the first terrorist incident 'directed' at Scotland. Even the IRA never crossed the line and brought Scotland into the 'Troubles'. I also read that there is a felling that this may be a message that was being sent to Mr.Brown, the new PM who is from Scotland.
I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

Glasgow Airport Incident
At present watching TV reports from Glasgow Airport. The terrorists have struck at the one of the airport's busiest days, the first day of the summer school holidays, hopefully the airport will get back to full working order soon and people's familly holidays will not be ruined.
As I stay across the river from the airport I thought there was something wrong when I noticed several helicopters fying about and turned on the TV to find out what was going on.
Thankfully no one was kiled or injured.

I'm just glad to know that no one other than the attackers were hurt and, it seems, no one is going to let it stop them living their lives.
I'm saddened by the fact that a lot of my Asian friends have had abuse directed at them, but I think that as a community we can get by it all.
I agree it may have been directed at Gordon Brown as the new PM.
What I'm also remembering, though, is that on the 7/7 attacks they warned that by the end of their plans 'The four corners of the U.K. will be burning.'
And since then I've been waiting for terrorist attacks in Scotland, Wales, Ireland etc.
It's a sad mess, but I'm glad they weren't more technologically and scientifically aware, as GlassMan pointed out.
One of the few things comforting me so far is that so many of these so called Jihadists don't seem to have recalled any of their training very well.

Alex Salmond paid a visit to the scene and was quick to point out the strength of all communities in Scotland and that it appears the arrested suspects have not lived in Scotland very long.
Only individuals do these things, not communities.
