    Black Watch memorial, Ticonderoga

Here are some pics of the Black Watch memorial cairn at Ticonderoga, NY. It was built in '97 and dedicated by members of that regiment on their way home from Hong Kong in '99. It is built entirely of stone from Scotland, and is situated just outside the "French Lines" at Fort Ticonderoga (Carillon), the site of the 42nd's famous assault in 1758. You can see the remains of the Lines inthe background of this first pic:

"Sacred to the memory of the gallant Highlanders of the 42nd Regiment of Foot 'The Black Watch'
"From a regiment of a thousand strong 205 died and 387 were wounded July 8, 1758 assaulting the French Lines on the heights of Carillon
    "~Their Glory Shall Never Die~
"The Black Watch Council of Ticonderoga

...but should be! The 42nd wasn't fighting "kith and kin" in 1758, as they were in the Amer. Revolution. They were fighting French regulars under Montcalm....

They're not too keen to dish them out when you lose.

    Ron,

The 1775 Battle, I presume? Was he with Ethan Allen?
