new to kilts-need feedback
This is my first post to this forum. I am also new to the world of kilts. I've always though the kilt was both an attractive garmet and one that would be very comfortable to wear but I had not previously actually took the leap and bought one. I'm getting married soon (on August 4th to be precise. Holy crap, its only a couple of weeks away now) and I decided I wanted to go through the ceremony kilted. I knew next to nothing about kilts when I started shopping. I ordered the kilt from Clansmen Knitwear. I wish I would have found this place before I had done so because a lot of people have had issues with this company. They had been recommended to me by someone I thought I could trust though and the prices seemed reasonable. I actually didn't have any huge issues with them given that they shipped the kilt out earlier than they said it would take (there was some kind of mixup on the shipping and it got sent back to them. they corrected the problem though it took them a little time to do so, still I got my item). The kilt is a 8 yard wool kilt and as far as I can tell its nicely made. Its made in the fergusson. My mother's maiden name is Fergusson and we can trace our ancestroy all the way back to scottland though our branch of the family has been in the states for a long, long time. I also got the kilt hose, highlander shirt (it will be an informal wedding), hose flashes and sporran through this company. I was not fond of the sporran. Having found this community by this point I had a much better idea what I wanted and ordered a different one from USA Kilts (which arrived amazingly fast, I honestly wish I would considered them for the actual kilt. maybe in the future. Anway now that I have the whole outfit that I will be wearing together I wanted to get some feedback from those who actually know something about wearing kilts. I'm going to link to a couple of picks of me in the outfit below. If any of you have any tips or advise for me please share. thank you.

Davos,
The only think I can see is that you are wearing the flashes wrong...
They go on the outside of each leg.

Firstly welcome to the greatest gift man has bestowed on himself. I have worn a kilt for over 40 yrs, and the first thing, is to relax yourself. Your now wearing a real men's clothing.
The ladies love to see you wearing it, proud and free of trouser's. Enjoy and you will wear it with pride. My friend Steve, says "sway + swish = swone"

Except for the flashes as Shriner pointed out you're looking mighty fine. You may be wearing your kilt a little low but the fit seems good. Traditionally a kilt is worn just above the navel (up to two inches) this would bring you kilt up to mid knee to just above knee level again where a kilt is traditionally worn. It may feel a bit strange at first but you'll soon get used to it. Hey, first and foremost we wear kilts for comfort, right?

That's where I wore my flashes for a whole day before I found out how they go. . Personally, I think they look more balanced with one on each side but considering they are supposed to imitate tied garters, that would be pretty hard to do.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Apart from the flashes, that have already been mentioned, can I suggest that the bottom edge of the kilt would should be raised so that it hangs no lower than the centre of the knee.Actualy a wee bit higher than that would be ok too.Apart from that you look pretty sharp to me.Best of luck for your futures.

I would say that yes the flashes should both be at the outside, also you should make sure that you center the belt and sporran on the kilt, one good thing about quite a few tartans is that they have a line going through the middle making it easy to do,than hike the kilt up to your natural waist so that the bottom hits just above your kneeto the middle of your knee.
I also think that the sporran is a wee bit high, you should have a gap of 3 or 4 fingers between the belt and the sporran. I know it sounds like alot of stuff but really it is just a mater of polishing up just a wee bit more.
I was also thinking you might want to look at this post about a wedding where the groomsmen were dresssed similar to what you have:

A big welcome to Xmarks from Western Scotland.
We know what's already been mentioned, and I think you look just fine.
Take on board the suggestions others here have made and you'll look perfect.
You might want to try wearing a 'Swordsman jacket' if you can get your hands on one.
