    Kilts in hot weather

Hello, Y'all from south Mississippi! I am new to kilts and looking forward to owning one soon. My biggest concern is the heat in late summer. I believe that a kilt is probably cooler than long pants but I am worried about wool. Is PV a better choice? I have heard of some cotton kilts but these probably won't hold pleats well.

    Welcome,

The irony of kilts for me is that they're warm in winter and cool in summer. Go figure.

I'm an olde Alabama boy that's traveled the South and sure know what you're talking about. My suggestion would be polyviscose kilts for that time of year.

But know you've some kilted brothers who live around there too. Hopefully they'll share their suggestions.

Its a dry heat here; except in June, July, August, and September

Yeah, in the summertime in Southern Arizona, I like PV, or very light weight wool.

I found that my kilt is one of the cooler things I own. I know that when the temperatures spiked last week, (Hit 95!, with 40% humidity! May not sound like its that bad, but that was a 15 degree, and 20% jump for us.) that I was the most comfortable person in my office.

Dry heat? Probably 100 degrees in the shade! Not exactly Highland conditions. I expect its cool and comfortable this time of year on Skye.

Where at in South Mississippi? I spent quite a bit of my Navy time at the shipyard in Pascagoula.

Hattiesburg, the Hub City. About 1-2 hours from Jackson, New Orleans, Mobile, Pascagoula, etc.

    Hello DTrain.

I'm in North Carolina and it was in the 90"s today. After wearing shorts to clean out three goatyards (wouldn't want to ruin a good kilt in with the goats) I took a shower and put on my RKilt. Wonderful. You'll have no trouble in the heat with a good kilt like one of Robert Pel's Canadian creations.

from North Georgia!! PV would be a good choice for the deep south..or if you went with a contemporary kilt like a Utilikilt, Rkilt, Freedom kilt... or any of the many others... those are generally a polly/cotton twill... (Rkilt make a beautiful HEMP kilt).. even a light weight wool wouldn't be that bad. It's all about the air circulation..something you can't get with pants...

Once you get above the 90s, it doesn't really matter what you're wearing. It's too hot. Lately, we've been reaching 100, with humidex, and I'm as comfortable in my wool kilt as I am in anything.
Riverkilt is right, it's more the shirt that makes a difference than the kilt. So, pick whatever you like and hydrate.
