Oh the Humanity!
So it's semi official. I have been in talks with the esteemed M.A.C. Newsome. He'll be making a 5-yard (okay, it's really 6 cuz I'm a big boy) yard knife-pleated kilt in 13 oz. Cian tartan. Payment will be sent Monday when my Paypal clears...
So from those of you who have had to wait on a one-of-a-kind hand-sewn... What am I in for? Sleepless nights? Loss of appetite? A thirst no dram can quench?

A very handsome and well made garment that you feel like a million dollars in.
I speak from experience.

An agonising wait but the product will be worth the wait.

First of all congratulations on the choice! I have one of his 4 yard box pleats and I ADORE it. Just be patient. I promise it's worth it.

Yeah, I was really torn on whether to get the 5-yard knife or the 4-yard box. The idea of a box pleat never sat well with me until I saw the pictures on his website. His work looks amazing. I think that in the end the main reason I went with knife-pleats was because it's my clan tartan and I just wanted a kilt that looked more like a "traditional" kilt. I know, box pleats pre-date and all that... but most non-kilters think of a kilt with knife pleats when someone mentions one... That said, I'll probably end up with a box pleat from Matt at some point... you know, when debt gets paid and I get a raise... some where down the road...

Jamie,
I do believe those are two of my kilts in the same picture, there! That's the Federal Memorial tartan next to you, correct?
Kevin, your swatch of the 13 oz Cian tartan arrived today and it is on its way to you in the mail.

Good memory Matt! They are both your work (which is why I chose this picture )though Dave's is a box pleat and mine is a five yard knife pleat. It was a very nice tartan and kiltimabar was just as pleased and impressed with your work as I was.

Good news on the swatch!
I forgot to mention the two belts and sporran hangers I bought from Cavscout... at least the jones for his product will only last 4 weeks or so...
BTW, I want to publicly thank the people who run XMarks for bringing all these great artisans and vendors together... I never would have found them without you guys!

Here's one way.....
You can always combat the Jones by ordering something in stock - like some hose and garters. It will arrive quickly and that will reassure you that they really do get your product to you as quickly as they can.
Also, Matt may have a copy of the Art of Kiltmaking left... a great read for anybody getting into kilts whether or not you plan to make one. It will give you some insight into why you just can't get the ultimate kilted experience off the peg or from a microwave.
happy jonesing - and happy new kilt!

Newsome
Matt is a scholar and a gentleman! I had no ill effects from the wait and my mind was at ease.
