    Parade

The band was in a parade yesterday. As we marched along the route, I heard someone shout, "Men shouldn't wear skirts!" I had never heard anyone shout this before, but I attribute it to the ignorance of a few people of the "small town-small minded idiot" variety (I'm not saying all small town folk fit this description, but some certainly seem to embrace living the stereotype).
Further along the way, near the end of the parade, a woman shouted, "NICE KNEES!", to which a man from the band called back, "Thank ya, honey!". This brought a smile to my face and sort of erased the first experience!

Regarding the first shouted comment: I've come to the conclusion that some people just break wind from the wrong end.

I get some of the skirt and dress remarks in my bucolic corner of the world.

I think Archangel has made a profound observation.

What an odd comment! Perhaps they were being facetious?

At a wedding in England a few years ago the photographer called out for the "men in skirts" to be photographed with the bride. Brave man, nearly got his camera where the sun don't shine.
