Capital District Scottish Games (pic heavy)

My wife and I just got back from the Capital District Scottish Games. This was my first time attending the games and I was blown away. This festival is huge. I was really surprised at the scope of activities, vendors, competition and music present.

The massed band performance. I couldn't get them all in...

Here's Barb Tewksbury competing with the Mohawk Valley Frasers Pipe Band. They sounded great...

I had the pleasure of meeting Barb after her band got off the field...

Incidentally, My 'got scotch' t-shirt garnered more comments than I've ever gotten about my kilt. Literally dozens of people stopped me to tell me they liked it and I overheard a bunch more people pointing it out to their friends...

    Here's the back...

    The bonnie knees contest...

    The heavy games field...

    Red Maple Farms clydesdales...

There were also sheep dog trials and an exhibition of Scottish dog breeds but I forgot to snap any pics.

There were many reenactors present from all periods of Scottish history. I really like this gentleman's kit. It's a good example of the commonality of mixing tartans prior to the '45...

The weather couldn't have been nicer...

There were two large music tents. On stage is a local band called Hair Of The Dog...

I really like the the bright colors in this guy's tartan. I saw several people wearing belted plaid with modern accessories. I never thought of wearing mine to a Scottish festival...

I'll wrap this up with a shot of this guy jamming out to Hair Of The Dog and playing the spoons. He was quite good...

All in all a great day and an awesome festival. I'll definitely be making this one an annual affair.

I've often heard that style referred to as "a tartan mess". It definitely stands out in a crowd.

I bought it from one of the vendors at the Central NY Scottish Games a few weeks ago. It was in a bargain bin and I think I only paid $8.00 for it. If my wife can remember the name of the vendor I'll post it in this thread.
