The Huish Clan, can anybody help me.
Hi,
I have been looking for years now to find what family my surname falls under in order to find our tartan. The surname is Huish, and is of Welsh/ Scot decent.
I know that there are regions named Huish, and some very awesome history around the Huish clan, but to no avail I have not yet found a tartan.
This search has been going for years. If any of you can help thatd be supe-arrrrr.
On that note, my first kilt (UK) will be here today or tomorrow. I'm glad to finally join the brotherhood....and about time.
Cheers

I have a 187-page list of Scot family names & associated Clans, but is at the house & I am at work (OK, so I goof off at work ) I will check it when I get home. I have to work at the cooking school tonight (2nd job) so it will probably be after 22:00 cst.
If I do not post back here, PM me to rattle my cage & remind me to do it for you.

I looked through my various sources and found nothing but Cornish/West Country topographical references. Most Cornish surnames are usually topographical and rarely patronymic, if that helps your search in any way.
The Cornish people are of Brythonic Celtic descent and thus very closely related to the Welsh (and Bretons). This may account for the Welsh possibility.

Careful googling this name. The family huish.org site will play around with your browser sizing. It's pretty insistent about it.
The other site mentions Lord Clinton as principal landowner. Is there a tartan for that? Would that work?

Funny, you don't look Huish.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist.) As a fellow Utilikilt wearer I am sure you'll enjoy yours, but be warned all kilts are addicting. This site also seems to indicate that Huish surname isn't generally associated with Scotland, so I am curious about your quest for an "official" tartan. (Don't get me wrong, the only thing Scottish in my blood comes from a bottle.)
Best regards,
Jake

I had a sec. before taking off to the cooking school.
Closest thing I found was Huie, sept of Donald. But remember mine is a Scot list only. Check the Welsh sites & that Huish site mentioned above. Good luck with it. ... sorry I was of no more help
