SWK Shadow Tartan Questions
Kilted Brothers,
I need some advice from those who may have one of SWK's Shadow Tartan Kilts.
I have come into some Birthday money and am torn between a new sporran and a new kilt.
Currently I have two SWK Thrifty Kilts (Mcleod Hunting and Black Stewart), two Frugal Corner's on order (long story, but I have the Pride of Scotland and MacPherson Dress coming soon).
So I think its time to consider a solid color and am torn between the Green and the Saffron. I will be likely wearing it for casual and formal (think Cruise) wear. I have a Brian Baru in the works.
Are the colors on the website accurate? How apparent is the "Shadow" tartan effect? In general what do you all think about the Green v.s. the Saffron?
Thanks for any and all advice / opinions.
Cheers,

Of the two, I'm most partial to the Saffron as seen here
How orange the kilt looks really depends on what you wear with it. Wear blue and it looks pretty orange. Wear brown and it looks more rusty. The saffron is an awesome color.
I also love the shadow tartan effect. It's an excellent feature for a solid color kilt.

I like the saffron. It seems to blend great with any Natural Hue, and Autumn comming up , you can dress it up or dress it down with any of the autumn colred acessories( beige , brown, red , rust, etc.)and be a HIT!!

I have the black shadow and love the effect of the tartan in the light. I was torn between the black and saffron as my first kilt, ended up going with black. I have seen the saffron up close and although I don't regret not getting the saffron I still very much desire it. I've not seen the green although Panache has one (you could pm him). I vote saffron.

After seeing (and feeling ) Grant's Black Shadow, I too ordered one. "How apparent is the "Shadow" tartan effect?" In some light, you don't notice the tartan pattern. In Cavscout's above photo, you can see the pattern. For the price and quality, you can't beat these SWKs.
"My father was an Ulster man, proud Protestant was he.
Me mother was a Catholic girl, from county Cork was she.....
My father, he was Orange and me mother, she was green."
As for safron or green? It's up to you. I'd wear either... but the green would be the colour for Butler's Rangers.

Though the saffron is more historical, I vote green! It is the color of hope and, well, just a fabulous color in general.
You can't go wrong with either choice, but I think green is more versatile.

I have both the green and the saffron, and like them both. The show of the shadow tartan depends a lot on the lighting situation. The pix on the website are pretty representative. The green is quite deep, a pleasing emerald hue, and Cavscout nailed it for the Saffron. you won't regret either choice but at the price why not plan over time to buy both?

I have the SWK Saffron -see Avatar- I also ordered the Fly plaid for Formal. Seems to be a more versatile colour, depending on what you wear with it, as Cavscout said.

I tried to find some pictures of the Green Shadow Tartan in different lights and different ensembles, but I can't find one that shows the shadow tartan effect well.
Here is Christmas:
And here is a more casual outdoor shot, but too far away to see it well:
This one may be the best bet to see the pattern. At the San Francisco Zoo:
It certainly is a versatile color! I would vote for green over saffron, although the saffron is lovely. Maybe just get both!
Be well,
