The delicate driven cork had dropped from the neck of the bottle into the whisky itself, leaving this extremely rare bottle requiring some renovation for the purchaser.
One would have thought that this would have reduced the value, but it seems money's no object for some collectors - rather like the Rabbie Burns hip flask option posted a few months back.

I'm with you Alex, I dont' get it. For instance, if there were to be an auction of a rare old wine and just days before the auction someone just "happened" to discover that it had been uncorked then wouldn't the value at auction be pretty much zilch?
