an oddball encounter in the inner city . . .
I have been wearing a kilt enough, that I seldom get comments anymore. When I do, it is mostly from the same kids at my daughter's after-school program.
But, the other day, I was walking to my local garage to pick up my car. I am wearing what I wore to work. Stillwater wool Black Watch, green hose, flashes, etc. I cross a street and meet an older African-American gentlemen crossing the other way. He stops, looks at me and says,
"You MUST be Scottish!"
I reply "Yup".
"What with wearing the kilt, right?"
me -- "Yup"
"You have Bagpipes?"
me -- "nope"
"You ever heard of Scotch and Blues?"
me -- "nope?"
"They gots bagpipes, and they are some bad Mutha{insert appropriate colorful language here}"
me (smiling) -- "sounds like a fun group!"
"You bet, you have a good day."
me -- "you too!"
weirdest conversation I have had in months . . .

lol, neat. It always a good thing to see "the brothers" accepting the Scot dress, let alone lending you a musical take on a new thing.
Cheers

odd reaction the other day...
I was going to an event, semi-dressy, so had on my MacDonald PV kilt, with hose, tie, waistcoat, etc... I walked into a convenience store, made my selections and proceeded to the counter... the girl behind the counter (early 20's I'd say) actually came out from behind her counter, looked me up and down, went back behind the counter and asked if I was from England! I tried to keep a straight face, and responded "No, but close..." and before I could explain about Scotland, she actually burst in with "London?" I felt like Jay Leno doing a street-walking clip for his show.

It's nice to hear of when people take interest especially in an appropriate manner. And if they share something useful thats a plus.

I believe that the group Lenahan has done some blues with the bagpipes. They were on ep. 2 of The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast that Marc Gunn does.
