A new somewhat casual subsitute for kilt hose...

Found these on the Sock Dreams website. http://www.sock-dreams.com/_shop/pag...uctID_1045.php

Ordered what probably was their last pair of the Russet color socks. They are kind of a reddish-orange, which surprisingly goes well with my Lennox District kilt. The mottled pattern to the wool doesn't make them ideal for wearing as dressy kilt hose, but they work well for running errands, going hiking, etc. Fit is the same as a pair of the Gaelic Themes regular kilt hose on me. I personally have size 11 feet, and usually wear either 10-13 or 12-14 size socks, depending on what's available.

Initial review is that they're very comfortable and feel very much like kilt hose, only a little thicker, so they'll be better for winter wear than some of the kilt hose I've worn. Will try them outdoors soon...

I picked up a set at the Utilikilt HQ about a month back. Very comfortable. Great "slouch socks"

that is very good news, since most of their styles (including this one) are listed as fitting to women's shoe size 10! I'd try several of their offerings if I thought they'd fit just a bit larger foot.

Yeah, I noticed that even in the Men's section, several of the socks were modeled by those of the female persuasion. I got a kick out of their spider socks, though! I can just image how that would look with a kilt.

Most of the socks I've bought from them have pretty decent stretch and are normally a 9-11 sock size. A couple pairs of various types have been a little bit on the small size, though.

I just got a couple pairs of these:
    http://www.sock-dreams.com/_shop/pag...ductID_862.php

They price is great ($8.00!!) but they are a bit airy between the stitches. I think they'll make a good spring/fall sock since the knit is a bit loose. For $8.00 I'm very happy with them!

I LOVE the sockdreams website. Call me strange (and I'll call you a hypocrite!) but I think socks are just waaay cool. Most of what they have I can't wear 'cause they're made for women, but they've got very neat things anyway. And I can always get them for my wife!

I have used the sock from sock-dreams as casual kilt hose for some time now. I have found though, that the over the knee socks are still a bit short for those of us with big calves. Instead, I get the thigh high socks. They allow plenty of material to get over my calves and give me a substantial foldover.
