    The Hogfather!

I know that there are one or two more Terry Pratchett fans lurking about the forum...I had a pleasant surprise Sunday evening: one of the obscure UHF TV stations here aired "The Hogfather" movie that was produced in the UK last year.

I read about the filming of it but I expected that I'd probably never get a chance to see it unless they released it on DVD but this was a treat.

The young lady that played Susan was perfect and they managed to portray Death really well considering that it was a costume...had the glowing blue eyes and everything. Playing "spot the British actor" was fun: the guy who played the Archchancellor of the Unseen University was, I believe, one of the judges that Rumpole of the Bailey was up against from time to time.

Try to keep an eye open to see if it resurfaces sometime during the holiday period...it was in the Ion Channel.

...and a link to the artwork that they based the character designs on:

...they even included one of my favorite characters, The Death of Rats.

    AA,

Thanks to your frequent mentioning of Terry Pratchett, this caught my eye when I saw the TV schedule. I missed the first half hour or so, but the last two hours were very entertaining.
It's definitely worth a re-watch, and the next time I'm in a book store I'll have to take a look at which of his works they have.

    Terry Pratchett

Some years ago, I happened upon his book, Night Watch. Since my usual reading fare leans toward crime fiction and thrillers, it took me a while to "get it." This thread prompted me to reread a chapter, just to refamiliarize myself, and I remember enjoying little bits and pieces of humor tucked among the story lines...almost Python-esque, in a way, if a bit more subtle.

I am just re reading Night watch - they are some of the few books I can read again - and again - though I have to be careful reading Reaper Man - it makes me laugh so much it is dangerous.

I like the Death of Rats, the Grim Squeaker - he does hamsters and gerbils too.

I haven't seen Hogfather the film, but I read the book last week. Not a book to make anyone laugh, really. Not even the funny bits.

Are you kidding? We've cranked through the entire series so far and are anxiously awaiting "I Shall Wear Midnight", the fourth and allegedly final book in the Tiffany Aching series (wherein the MacFeegles are the comic relief).

And we are waiting for the movie:

And I am really teed off that the shipping from the Uk to US is so steep on the MacFeegle T-shirts from Paul Kidby...the shirts themselves cost as much as the shipping and handling...otherwise my daughter would have a couple of them. (Guys, it's a frelling T-shirt! It's not a strategic material or something!)

I've never read the Hogfather, but maybe I should. I need to get back into those books. The cool thing about them is that they are awesome.

(Incidentally, my computer's name is A'Tuin, and the hard drive icon is a turtle. I thought this appropriate as it is a portable laptop and it has (had) everything of mine on it.)

Ah! The DVD got released in the USA and I grabbed one at the Borders store near me. I was afraid that they would think that there wouldn't be enough interest over here to make it worth doing a region 1 DVD.

Now I have a copy for posterity!
