    Sittin' on a cold bucket

While those visions of sugarplums dance through most people's haids, I'm feelin' mighty blue that I did not get out once to go fishing this year.

    I know...it's downright humiliating....

So I just saw those two words that I personally never thought would get my motor revved: Ice Fishing.

So now all of you guys up in Wisconsin and Minnesota are, no doubt, make sport of us guys from Illinois...hell, you seem to do that all the time anyway...what are we...the comic relief for the Midwest? (I thought that was Iowa...)

I know that you lot get enough ice up there that you can build condominiums out on the lakes and move your whole families in for the winter....dining on walleye and beer and pike and beer and bluegill and beer and beer. We're lucky, in these days of global warming (thank you very much , Mr. Gore...Nobel Prize or no, I am holding you personally responsible) to get enough ice hereabouts to be able to walk across Saganshkee Slough without crashing through into the frigid waters to re-visit the empty long-necks that the teenagers threw in there last summer.

So I may go look at augers later on today...damn....I'm desperate!

Humor...sort of like blaming Aquinas and Augustine for the existence of sin only because they spent so much time defining what it was...like it didn't exist until somebody defined it...humor...

Trout fishing in the moving water is wonderful in the winter. I do it all the time here. Use Nymphs.
I don't care if it is colder than %^&, fish still gotta eat!

Oh, aye...I've heard of that but whenever I've read about doing it, they always tell you that you need to tie those size 24 midges because the trout only take itty-bitty things in the winter. With these rapicly aging eyes, I can't even SEE a size 24 hook, let alone tie one on the tippet with cold fingers.

Seriously, though, that is a possibility...most of the places that I usually fly fish got trashed by the flood last August, though...I'd have to look elsewhere.

Thanks for clarifying that! I come out of the Benedictine and Franciscan traditions, so I'm happy to blame Augustine and Aquinas for anything.

As the desecendent of a long-line of Scottish Iowans, I'll overlook your failed attempt at humour.

We make fun of both indiscriminately...

...I honestly can't make sport of the Iowans...I do have a considerable bit of family in Iowa and I've had some of the best Chinese food ever in Cedar Rapids...plus, Grant Wood and all of the art and festivities that now ensue in his honor.
