    New Place

I have recently signed up to be a volunteer at the Auburn, Cord, Duesenburg Automotive Museum. The head of the volunteers asked me to come to their monthly volunteer meeting this past Thursday evening to get to meet other volunteers. I asked her what to wear. She told me that it was casual. I warned her that telling me that the dress is casual could mean other things to me. I told her that I prefer to wear a kilt when I can. She told me that it was not a problem. I worm my Leatherneck SWK with a green wool sweater. Here is the irony for me. I prefer to wear a kilt, but I do not want to be noticed at the same time as I can tend to be shy. The kilt was a great 'ice breaker' for me to meet others. I got several complements and many questions, but never 'the questions'. The person how is charge of the directing events spoke to me and told me about a member of the Cord club how wears a kilt.

I can be pretty shy too, but wearing a kilt in public is still worth it to me. And you're so right! It's a great icebreaker and conversation piece!

    Congratulations.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

What a nest place to volunteer at. Glad your kilt is proving to be an icebreaker.

    Cheers

The museum has a dress code (which does not address a kilt) and supplies clothing if you are in the museum as a guide or other similar position. Other positions such as car maintenance (which include dusting to restoration) are 'casual'. Hmmm.............
The person in charge of volunteers never commented on my kilt. She was 'forewarned'. It did not seem to trouble her in the least, but she also never made any comment about it. Not sure what to think, but she was very positive towards me, but then as I spoke with her she was very well aware that I am an old car junkie.

The ACD museum, huh? Wouldn't like to swap jobs, would ya? My dad had an 810 convertible coupe before the Hitler War, and when I was 15 or so we all-to-briefly had a J in the driveway... What magnificent cars...

When you finally get to the point where you don't ask others if you can wear a kilt or not, you will be at the desired location. Luckily, I'm there, and I couldn't be happier!

In my pants days, I can never remember asking anybody if I could wear pants! Sure, I would ask if it was casual, semi-formal, formal, etc - but I find now that wearing a kilt is as accepted (for me) as wearing a hat, or shoes, or sox.

    Good luck.
