Damascus, Ironwood, Mesquite, Sgian Dubh
After working and running around today, I was ready for something relaxing. I got some help from the oldest and we headed out in the yard to pick up mesquite trimmings from the last couple years. One old chunk was dry as can be and the heartwood had a lot of character.I chopped them into crude scales and ran them through my planer and a couple passes on my sander to get a look at the grain. This summer's still had a little mositure in them so they are still drying. A piece of old log was turned into tonight's project.
I used the top one on this sgian.

A very simple build. Blade, brass, little bits of ironwood and the new chunk.

Here it is with nothing but 600 and 1000 grit sanding and buffing with white compound. I'm glad I have a lot of trees that need yearly attention. I've got my eye on a cats claw near my front drive. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to put any other finish or leave it as is.

Sorry for the picture quality, I had my Iphone in my pocket and it's easy to just upload them directly.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Beautiful. Your work just gets better and better. This is my favorite piece of your work so far. Makes me wish I had the tools to try it on my own.

What width do you start out with to get the finath thickness? They're just so elegant.
