    My first belted plaid

    Hi everyone,
I have been craving for a great kilt for years. Searching out on internet I found information on belted plaids, and it seemed to me a good idea to quench my thirst in an immediate and economical way. I found some fabric on ebay and started folding and wrapping.

It became obvious to me that I had to cheat and stich and sew to give the kilt a "cleaner", more formal look. This is the result :

This is more or less what a banished or exiled Highland gentleman in the late 18th century would wear on the continent (France or Germany)... err, sort of:

I hope you enjoyed these photos,

    I think that looks fantastic.
There's nothing cheating about sewing it in a wee bit. There's loads of evidence that people done that. (And added drawstring-loops!)

    You look very dashing.

    Looks great.
I have never seen a dirk on a sporran strap. The sporran is hanging a bit low too.

    Robert,

The plaid and outfit look great, except for the modern sporran and chain belt. 18th C. style sporrans (either all leather or with a metal cantle) are available. The sporran can hang directly from the main waistbelt (most common) or from a separate all-leather belt. The dirk should hang from the waitbelt, NOT the sporran strap....

Expensive as hell, but the sporrans on this page are just right:

    And period leather sporrans here:

That looks great. Not sure if its the sewn in pleats or what, it looks very put together. Well done.
