Hooray (Ah-Roo!) for Beagles!
I own one of these crazy little hounds, too, so it's a great day:

I watched both days of the Westminster Dog show, much like every year, and was amazed by the quality of the dogs this year. I don't know why, but I was also amazed at the number of breeds that originated in Scotland. I have watched the WDS for years but never gave this point a second thought.
I digress, Hooray for Beagles, but all dogs are great. It was a great dog for a first breed win, lots of personality!!

As the proud owner of a big, bad, bodacious beagle babe, we (the dog and I) were very happy.
Usually winning the Westminster spikes a breeds popularity...hope that everybody who decides that they want a "cute little Snoopy" takes the time to learn about the breed before they make the commitment. Like all hounds, beag's are ruled by their noses and you have to make certain concessions and let 'em get their daily minimum requirement of being nosey or they get kind of edgy. And they do need their beauty sleep...one fella up in Minnesota once asks me, "Is that a good hunting dog?", to which I reply, "No...but she is a good sleeping dog...gets her eighteen hours a day in like clockwork."
Glad for the beagles...I've become a ratherr dedicated hound fan and all hounds are great companions.
Best

One of these days down the road when my family feels ready for a dog, it's going to be a beagle or a beagle mix. I had a beagle/dachshund mix about 10 years ago and he was a super little dog.

Hooray for the underdog!
I have to add, after seeing the thread title again (Ah-Roo!), that you have stoked a memory from my childhood. We used to have a beagle/smooth fox terrier mix named Spot when I was a kid, and "Ah-Roo-roo-roo-rooooo" was exactly how she used to greet my father every day on his return home from work.
Regards,
Rex.

Brings back memories of my first dog, a beagle.
Crazy little nut thought he was a coonhound, always going after big boar coons!
