First jacket conversion
As promised on another thread, here are pics of my first jacket conversion. I picked this brown cotton jacket up on sale at JCPenney a while ago. It originally had a center vent, but i closed that and opened up some side vents in addition to shortening it and cutting the front away for the sporran. The cutaway isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be, but it does the job and, honestly, no one around here would notice. I also didn't put the pockets back on. I kind of like it the way it is.
What I learned doing this will be very helpful the next time I decide to do one of these.

You know, I wouldn't have thought it but that actually works pretty well. I think it looks better open, of course, but it goes really well with the rest of your outfit.
Go you!

Thanks Arlen!
I do tend to wear it open but usually button it up when I head outside on a cold day.

It's an interesting look, but I think you would be better doing a conversion from a more traditionally styled jacket. I think the results will turn out better for you. Looks to be good job on the conversion though.

Awesome, I like it!
I just completed my first jacket conversion a couple weeks ago. I found David Dalglish's pictorial for making the cutaway smooth, really helpful. Using bias tape is the secret.
