Helping a Scot get into a kilt
I dont normally post on my encounters while wearing a kilt but this one was new to me, but definetly not unique to this board. I walked into the free lunch held by the Baptist Student organization on campus and I heard someone yell "KILT." I looked around casually and the source of the commotion approched me. He was a gent about my age and the first thing he asked was if my kilt was "affordable." Being that it was my Stillwater (I had chem lab, HCL+kilt= angry Scotsman) I told him it was an affordable kilt, but that it was by no means the "real deal." He was very interested in getting into something similar so I gave him a quick lesson on highland dress and then gave him the address to SWK as well as Xmarks and my handle here. It was a rewarding experience. I also had a bunch of positive comments as well as one puny punk that called it a "dress." I simply asked him if he would like to have a guy in a "dress" kick is butt when he insisted on calling it that. I can take skirt and man skirt but I draw the lline on dress. Anyway, its been a fun kilted outing.

We don't like the word dress yet we talk about Highland Dress
But still good you were able to handle the guy's questions and give him information BB.

Great job in the PR department. It shows that you wear the kilt proudly.

I've had so many similar happenings that I had to print up a bunch of cards (on both sides) to give out to the currious. It is neat that there are now "entry level" kilts available. Believe me, that wasn't always so.
On one side I list my name, and phone number.
On the other side, I list the web-sites of many Scottish style companies and a couple of forums too. (X-Marks at the top of the list!)
With today's ease of printing your own business cards, I would suggest that others do the same.

That's a great idea! I've only been kilted outside once and I've already had two people wanting to know where I got it, how much, how comfortable they are, etc., etc. Having a few cards in my sporran would not only show a willingness to encourage more kilties but would also show that the sporran itself isn't just decorative
