    Xmarks as therapy?

I am just a wee bit by my one moth anniversary at Xmarks and I was thinking about how I found it and why I started using it so much.

Diane had just left to return to America after out first stint of living together.
We'd be told (Heh) that the visa process for me to go to America would only take 2 months, so I moved back in with my Dad while we waited.

I was really sad and lonesome and joining Xmarks perked me up a lot.
I found it to be a warm and welcoming community and I like to think I've made some great friends here.
It was something that I could turn to when I was lonely and having a rubbish day.
Xmarks really helped me to get through that tough and lonely time without turning into a miserable whiner.

Now I am about to move over to America (finally!) but I still want to be around here as much as possible.
It's a great place and I love coming here on my happy days as well as sad days.

So it got me wondering, what rubbish times in your life has Xmarks helped you get through?

I posted in one of my threads a little while back that it's helping me overcome my shyness and some of my anxiety issues. I'm also hoping to chat with folks and possibly make new friends as well as learn a lot of interesting stuff. It's also a great excuse to get out with Christopher and be more social (kilt nights, etc)

I'm so glad you'll get to be with your sweetie soon!

I came here to learn how to make kilts. I purchased some MacPhearson tartan material and my mother would have made the kilt for me but it would have taken about a year. I couldn't wait, 1 yr of jonesing???, no way. The help I got here was priceless.

Arlen, glad we could be here for you.

Cynthia, I think you are charming and well on your way to overcome your shyness. In fact, if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have guessed.

Like Cynthia, I can be a bit shy. I don't have anxiety like she's had, but getting out in groups...I've always been very quiet and looked for reasons not to go to events.

I've had a blast at the first two kilted events Cynthia and I went to, and I look forward to many more. Thursday is a kilt night in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas and I can't wait!

Working nights for the last five years (Thank God that's almost over) my social life has been limited. This board certainly provides some socialization after work when most folks are already snoozing.

And for sure the board gave me feedback that helped me avoid making stupid mistakes during my two dark kilt prohibition periods at work and gave me the courage to engage the appeal process of my agency - which worked out to my favor.

Knowledge from the board also helped me make an intelligent, adult appeal with various facts and examples.

This is the only forum I belong to on the web, so it is very enjoyable to be able to talk to people all over the world. On the other hand, I really don't have much of a social life by my own choice, and it has been fun to get to know many of you all. I've only been here a few months at this point.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
