Newbie kilted DownUnder
Newbie kilted DownUnder.
(By that I mean that I'm new to wearing a kilt, and that I live in the Antipodes.)
Interesting reactions so far.... From women mostly positive, at worst neutral.. ("why?",and "do you have Celtic blood?") One woman (an ex-pat Scot) said that she liked the "swish". ![Cool](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
But the reactions from the men have been interesting. I thought the funniest was "make sure you wear it to the party!"
But the most interesting have been along the lines of (and I quote)....
"You are such a nerd! I am a Gordon we even have our own tartan but I won't wear our kilt. Much to dad's displeasure."
Et cetera....
Three of my male friends have told me that they have good (family tradition) reasons to wear a kilt, but then told me that there is no way that they would actually wear one. I am willing to wear a kilt, and in their eyes that makes me a nerd!
Ha!

Greenguzzi, it is funny the kinds of reactions you get. I live in a smaller town in Northern Colorado, a fair amount of farmers and ranchers in this area, so the expected comments from some of the cowboys. But, this is also a University town. So we get an influx of rather diverse younger people most of the year as well. Their reactions are usually very accepting, and even appreciative.
My friends, on the other hand, think I'm a bit of a nutter, anyway, so the kilts don't faze them.

from Chicago, Illinois, USA. Actually, though they may use the word 'nerd', most of them probably don't have the guts to wear a kilt in public.

Thanks Mr Beeman. Good comments.
I have been cultivating a large and unruly beard for many years now, and that has been enough to mark me as being a bit strange. So I guess people have already marked me as a "nutter". (Actually I've trimmed the beard right down, but am now thinking of growing a handlebar mustache, but I digress.)
It also helps having the temperament of not really giving a damn what people think. But I guess that is something one is born with, so I can take no credit.
By the way, some members of the BG forum are asking of you Mr Beeman.
Mr. McFarkus,
I don't care if they call me a nerd. (I'm not a nerd, if anything I'm a geek.) But yeah, I've got the guts to wear a kilt and they don't. The more they give me curry about it, the more I realise that they are wishing that they had the kahoonas to do the same.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Welcome Gordon Cousin,
I live in a small redneck town in the canyonlands of Arizona. 135 miles across the reservation to get to the nearest city. Still kilted and my fellow canyonlanders are learing to live with it.
Have three Gordon tartan kilts - weathered, red, and modern with one on order, the dress Gordon.
They're all sharp looking tartans.
