    Masonic Ring gift from co-worker

My co-worker for the past three years and now fellow brother gave me a ring and I was very curious as to which way do my fellow brothers wear their rings, compass points facing inward or out to the world?

“You are supposed to wear the ring "compass - pointed" into yourself until you become a Past Master of your lodge. At which time you can turn it out to the rest of the world, as you have reached the point of Master, and have mastered the art of the Quadrant, and you may now share your wisdom with others”.

What a thoughtful gift from a true brother. Congratulations.

I wear everything masonic in a manner that shows the jewel correctly to others. I usually wear a Scottish Rite ring with the two heads of the eagle toward me, but I do have a blue lodge ring, and when I wear it, I wear it with the angle of the square pointing away from me so that the jewel is rightside up to other people.

I don't know of any rule about the ring; just wear it with pride and show yourself a man of integrity so others will respect the light.

Very nice gift brother. I wear my ring with the point of the compass pointing to me. I don't know of any hard true rule on how to wear it. The great thing about the brotherhood is that it teaches you to think for your self, so wear it how every makes you happy.

Or leave the points inward as a reminder to circumscribe your own life.

Wear the ring either direction. Just remember to wear it honorably. That's the important part.

The traditions vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and sometimes from Lodge to Lodge.

I was told by my father who gave me my first Masonic ring that if you are more interested in others knowing that you are a Mason, then you wear it with the compass points outboard, facing others. If you want to constantly remind yourself that you are a Mason, and use it to keep you on the right path, then you wear it with the compass points towards you, so it is viewed by you.

I have always liked this reason, and it is why I wear the ring so it faces me.

As to changing the direction of the emblem for a past master, that seems odd, as there is a perfectly good past master's emblem, which most past masters wear.

I was told to wear mine as a reminder.
