Officiating a wedding-HELP!!
In addition to my full time job that pays the bills, although rather poorly, I am also a minister. I have just been asked by a co-worker if I might perform her wedding ceremony. I have several weddings under my belt, er, collar, but none in a kilt. I would like to give her the option of that. Keeping in mind that I have a smallish budget to work with, I was wondering if anyone might have a suggestion as to what to wear? I have seen somewhere the mention of a clergy tartan. Is that a clan tartan or one that is particular to ministers? And since it would be only my 2nd kilt, is it something appropriate for everyday wear? Where's The Kilted Reverend and Pipesanddrumnun when you need them?!!?

The clergy tartan is also known as the clark tartan, but I think it would be ok for you to wear it. I also believe it would be ok for everyday wear.
I say you would be fine in the clergy tartan, in fact I am working towards my first tank which will be in the clergy tartan.

Our resident tartan historian, Matt Newsome, has a great article on his web site about the Clergy tartan:

In addition to Matt's article, I will add that I have 2 Clergy kilts= one from USA Kilts that I save for weddings and other formal occasions, and one Sport Kilt. I wear my SK regularly, although it's far from my favorite kilt. The tartan is beautiful, but I don't like Sport Kilts. So I say that if you get a Clergy tartan tank, wear it! It's a great tartan. You can see me wearing mine at a wedding in Arizona in the photo gallery. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/a...300/index.html

You know what I have been planning on getting is an Eton jacket from http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...ojackets4.html The one the lady is wearing would be the right cut, and I personally think it would look great with a nice silver button replacing the black one that's already there.

I think a clergy tartan kilt would be very appropriate to wear. Throw on a dark jacket and you're sharply dressed for a formal wedding - as Nighhawk's pictures show. I think the tartan also looks great with a black clerical shirt (if that is what your tradition wears). If the wedding was more casual you could probably get away without a jacket.
I also think its a great tartan to wear any day.

Clergy/Clark is perfect. Frugal Corner has them reasonable price.

And it's perfectly fine for every day wear . Go for it!
